Lately I’m finding benefits to creating some tracing projects. It requires focus (so the room gets really quiet!) and I think students find it soothing somehow.
This was made by tracing a map onto tissue paper, and then adding info and coloring with watercolor paint.
I love how the paint makes the paper wrinkle, just like an old map.
Here is a link to some fascinating Mayflower Voyage information.
To begin, click on this map and download to your desktop. Print a copy for each student.
Tape a sheet of tissue paper over the map, trace with a Sharpie marker, and add details such as border, trees, ocean life.
Finish by painting with watercolor paint.
