Common Core Cork Coasters

Cork CoastersI gave this project it’s extra long name to emphasize that you can make a cool pattern based on math. Start with drawing a triangle in the middle. Attach another triangle to a side, and so on. Make them long, short, or in between, just keep adding two sides to make a new one until the shape is filled. Worked great for me with pre-K through 3rd graders last week. Could be a nice Father’s Day gift too as a pack of 4 cork discs only costs $2.

Common Core Standard: CCSS.Math.Content.1.G.A.1

Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
